The journal began life as Revista de la Federacion Teosofica del Uruguay in 1924 and then become El Mensaje. This was a standard Adyar Theosophical magazine. "Jehel" (Leo Alvarez Costet de Mascheville) is said to have been active in editing the journal. On him and his activities in Martinism, see the note under Iniciacion. Mario Radarelli Panzacchi later contributed to Lumen de Lumine, and Hector and Alberto Cassinelli who graced the journal’s masthead were part of the influential family that supported Accion Femenina and Alborea.
