From Pat Deveney's database:
Yoga (Union). This is the rather pretentious (and pathetic) journal published by JoseAntonio Bautista Orozco who put himself forward in the 1960s as head of La Asamblea Unica Mundial (A.U.M.) Quetzalcoatl/Ketzalkoatl, Real Orden de la Serpiente Emplumada y S. S. M. del Quinto Sol (World's Unique Assembly Quetzalcoatl/Ketzalkoatl, Royal Order of the Plumed Serpent and Supreme Priesthood of the Messengers of the Fifth Sun). In this, Orozco was trying to blend three distinct traditions of occultism in Mexico, in none of which he was a prominent figure: the Fraternitas Rosicruciana Antiqua (FRA) of Arnold Krumm Heller (1876-1949), the Gran Fraternidad Universal (GFU) of Serge Raynaud de la Ferriere (1916-1962), and the offshoots of the nineteenth century Espiritualismo Trinitario Mariano of Roque Jacinto Rojas Esparza (Padre Elias, 1812-1879) that mixed Elias, the third Messiah, with trance mediumship and indigenous and nationalistic elements of Toltec and Aztec wisdom—of which Orozco claimed to be the heir—as the guide for the coming New Era of the Fifth Sun presided over by the Winged Serpent, Quetzalcoatl. Krumm Heller had introduced the Rosicrucian FRA into Mexico in 1927 (see the notes under Cruz Astral and Rosa-Cruz) and at some point Orozco had become a member since the journal carried a photograph of the two together, although his role in the order is unknown. Orozco also was a member of Raynaud de la Ferriere's GFU, in which he served as Jefe del Servicio de Brigadas Misionales in Mexico. Raynaud de la Ferriere was a Wunderkind of his age who tried to blend Eastern and Western occultism with art, science and religion to welcome in the New Age of Aquarius. He had founded the Ashram El Limon in Maracaibo, Venezuela in 1948 as the spearhead of his Gran Fraternidad Universal in South America. C. Jinarajadasa of the Adyar Theosophical Society noted meeting him in India and marked him as a poseur for his pretentious dress and long hair. Roque Elias, an ex-priest, had started the Iglesia Mexicana Patriarcal de Elias (IMPE) in 1861 which taught that Mexico was the navel of the world, elected to bring in the New Era of Humanity called the Fifth Sun. Orozco sought to combine all of these elements with himself as Supreme Priest of the Messengers of the Fifth Sun. The journal was a solicitation of students and subscribers, "A Call to All Human Beings" to prepare for the New Era and help found a Colonia Espiritual in Mexico. He bragged in it that he had been assassinated twice (in 1951 and 1954) and had somehow been returned to life, and that the AUM Ketzalkoatl through its offered lessons and meditations could solve the apocalyptic problems facing mankind: atomic war and over-population, the latter of which would be cured by "Absolute Chastity, even within marriage" coupled with "scientifically directed, conscious biological selection." "Science" was the key to the New Age, coupled with knowledge of the Inner Planes, and was offered in a variety of forms: Cosmic-Radiology, Astrochemical, Astro-Biology, Cosmic-Physiology, Cosmic-Psychology, Radio-Astronomy, Radio-Astrology, Astrosophy, Archeometry, Cosmo-Psycho-Cybernetic; electrotelepathy; Electro-Pholo-Etherography, etc. The knowledge of the Inner Planes was that kept secret by the pre-colonial Mexicans — "Amerika Autoktona tambien existe" — and could be found in their ceremonials and glyphs. "The Hatha Yoga of the Aztecs is in their dances, in their ball games and in the theme of their dances in which ceremonies they render homage to the Sun, to the Moon, and to Mother Earth—and while it contains much more than the Hindu science which – far from seeking the perfection of a people, has a selfish aspect which tends to develop only the individual." The journal claimed a printing of 10,000 copies and a worldwide circulation, which seems unlikely. It offered an excerpt from Foster Bailey on the necessity of good will and a message from "El Tibetano" on the same topic, and gave an idiosyncratic interpretation of passages from Saint Matthew and the Apocalypse of John, and a lengthy discussion of "The Prophetic Message of Fatima," but bulked out its page count with articles on "Cooking In Aluminum Pans is Dangerous." The journal contained an English-language supplement, "Peace!," which called for the convening of the World's Unique Assembly.
