The Societe de Magnetisme de Paris, of which this journal was the organ in its last years, was the combination of the original Societe de Magnetisme de Paris (1815), the Societe Philanthropico-Magnetique (1840), the Societe du Mesmerisme (1844) and Jury Magnetique (1847). The journal carried reports of the seances of the society, complete with a regular "Clinique" with discussions of current medical cases epilepsy, ovarian tumors, ulcers, deafness, and the like. It published articles on controversies ("Causeries") and developments in the field, "Faits Magnetiques" with notes on various "facts" of somnambulism and magnetism, like the Zouave Jacob, Od and the Magnetic Fluid, the history of Mesmer and the movement, action at a distance, telepathy, etc., and an important series on "Notes Bibliographiques pour servir a l'histoire du Magnetisme Animal." In the late 1860s, Baron Jules Du Potet was honorary president of the society. Although M. Morin, one of the editors under Millet, was strongly opposed to spiritualism and its phenomena, the journal carried regular notes and discussions of the "tables tournantes et parlantes."
