From Pat Deveney's database:
Training for Self-Conquest. This is the product of the Christward Ministry founded near San Diego in 1940 by Flower and Lawrence Newhouse. Flower Arlene Sechler Newhouse (Mildred "Mimi" Arlene Sechler, 1909-1994) was an archtypical Southern California figure, publishing dozens of books from the late 1930s through the 1970s on topics like Shambala, angel guides, the Kingdom of the Shining Ones, auras, healing, initiation, karma, prophecy, Western meditation, the sacraments, super-physical consciousness, vibrations, the Holy Quest, out-of-the-body voyages to Venus, enlightenment, rebirth and reincarnation, weather angels, "The Life of Jesus as I Remember It," etc., all designed to lead the aspirant to the "direct, immediate experience of God." Flower (as she began calling herself as a teenager because 14 lives earlier she had been a young girl of that name in Ecuador) had become a clairvoyant at the age of 6 and by the early 1930s was the pastor of a Unity Fellowship church in Los Angeles. In 1933 she married her husband and the next year they started The Inspiration Newsletter/Inspirational Letters (1934-1940) to keep in contact with her students, and this became Inspiration (q.v.) in 1940 when they acquired a large tract of land near San Diego for her Christward Ministry and Questhaven community. The journal is practically unknown and even the surviving organization for her work doesn’t list a copy. It was a monthly and was published simultaneously with the quarterly Inspiration in the late 1940s. The journal provided Thoughts/affirmations for the Month: "The Inclusive Consciousness which realizes God’s Presence in the midst of outward activity, can be the magnet which draws all of our being into an identification with the Spiritual Realities of Life. Spiritual Identification means merging the whole man, body, moods-mind-and-soul, with the power and order of Spirit. Physical existence becomes purposeful and constructive when man at last perceives that there are Goals, Ideals, and Energies with which he may align himself with steadfast intention. The practice of Spiritual Identification gives us a Direction, a North Star," etc.
