This, under various names, was the official organ of the Theosophical Society in Australia. It began with Theosophy in Australasia, edited by John C. Staples, started in conjunction with the first Australian convention of the T.S. From 1921 to 1926, under the name Theosophy in Australia, it was edited by Josephine Ransom, who was the most factual of Theosophical historians. Its publication coincided with the split in the Theosophical Society in Australia over the Back-to-Blavatsky movement and opposition to the role of C.W. Leadbeater and the Liberal Catholic Church in the society. In 1926 Theosophists in favor of Leadbeater and Annie Besant published The Australian Theosophist, edited by George Sydney Arundale with Leadbeater from 1928, which first appeared as "under the Auspices of the Theosophical Society" and then from 1929-1931 as the official organ of the T.S. in Australia. After a hiatus, Theosophy in Australia appeared again in 1936 as the official organ. On the internecine squabbles and strong personalities of the section, see the note under The Australian Theosophist. Leaving those aside, the journal was a typical product of the branches and sections of the Adyar Theosophical Society. Indexed by the Campbell Theosophical Research Library, Sydney, Australia, online at https://theosophicalsociety.org.au.
