This was the journal of the Bombay Lodge of the Theosophical Society in Bombay, founded in 1880. The journal regarded itself as the direct offshoot of the Theosophist, started by H.P. Blavatsky in the same city in 1879, and is notable among Theosophical journals in featuring original articles on Theosophy and Indian philosophy. The lodge’s membership included Tookaram Tatya (d. 1898) and also Bahman Pestonji Wadia (1881-1958 ), who later edited the journal and its successor Theosophy and New Thought and other journals and went on to join the United Lodge of Theosophists. The title of the journal was changed to Theosophy and New Thought in 1907 because it was thought that "Gleaner" no longer reflected the journal’s interests and purposes. Noted in Lotus Bleu, 1898, and listed in Notes and Queries, January 1900. National Library of Australia; University of London; University of Chicago.
