The journal’s primary interest was in its "Seccion Doctrinal," devoted to lengthy expositions of the Kardecist doctrine. Auso y Monzo, a prominent homeopathic doctor, and a republican and Mason, had been the first to import Kardec’s The Book of Spirits into Spain and then began the Socidedad Progreso Espiritista in Alicante, of which this journal became the organ. The first issues examined the work of the medium Juan Perez in producing spirit photographs, a real novelty in Spain at the time. The journal published the spiritualist poet Amália Domingo y Soler (1835-1909), who had formally become a spiritist in 1875 and who then went to edit La Luz del Porvenir while continuing to submit articles to this journal. Throughout 1899 the journal reviewed the press reviews of the spiritualist plays of Miguel Gimeno Eito, then editor of the journal, which the journal published. A journal of the same name was started in the early 1970s after a hiatus from at least the late 1930s.
