| O. T. O. Newsletter V1 N3 Dec 1977 | |

This is the newsletter of the Ordo Templi Orientis, and it is unmistakably Thelemic: Aleister Crowley, 'The Book of the Law,' the 'Aeonic current of Horus,' the office of the 'Caliph' who heads the modern order, and a self-compiled English-Qabalah 'number dictionary' for decoding Thelema's holy text. Its vocabulary -- initiation, magick, tarot, esoteric -- places it at the center of Crowleyan ceremonial magic. Because the O.T.O. is by definition the order of sex-magick, organized around initiatory degrees, that current and the tarot/gematria and Hermetic-Qabalistic strands earn real secondary standing, even though this particular front-matter number is more organizational and exegetical than ritual-explicit. It belongs with the Thelemic and ceremonial-magic periodicals, not with Theosophy, to which the panel's generic 'occult' score wrongly tilts. Generated by Claude from the periodical's digitized text; a thematic reading, not a bibliographic description. |
