After the first issue of June, the journal was suspended until December 11, 1879, and during the interval it was published as El Eco de la Verdad (26 issues). Luis Llach, the president of the Centro Espirita Barcelones "La Buena Nueva," conceived the idea of a spiritualist journal written and edited by women and La Luz del Porvenir was the result. Amalia Domingo y Soler (1835-1909), who was chosen to manage (and later own) the journal, was a poet, feminist, reformer and author of real distinction and oversaw the journal for almost 20 years, all the while publishing books and innumerable articles on spiritualism and her controversies with the Catholic Church. See "Amalia Domingo Soler," online at http://www.espiritismo.cc. She also published the free-thought La Conciencia Libre (Barcelona). The journal was suspended again during the first eight months of 1899, and ceased in May of the next year. The journal is a prime examplar of contemporary Spanish Kardecist spiritism, with regular articles on the secular virtues of the selfless developing soul, and exhortations on education ("¡Guerra a la igorantia!"), charity, free thought, feminism ("Los Grandes Triunfos de la Mujer"), opposition to "obscurantism" (the Catholic Church--"The dogmatism of yesterday is the obscurantism of today"), and the like. Although Domingo y Soler wrote a large part of the journal it also attracted a wide range of like-minded women (and the occasional man) internationally.

On the journal generally, see Oscar M. Garcia Rodriguez, Historia del Periodismo Espiritista en Espana; De Kardec Hasta la Guerra Civil Espanola (2006), online at http://www.ameporto.org. BNF; Biblioteca Nacional de Espana; Hemeroteca Municipal de Madrid.

This was a re-animation of the earlier journal of the same name founded by Amalia Domingo Soler (1835-1909) in 1879, but displayed the changes that had overtaken the spiritualist movement in the interval with articles on psychic force, Theosophy, orientalism, and the like. The final issues in 1936 called upon spiritualists to support the republic. Noted in Oscar M. Garcia Rodriguez, Historia del Periodismo Espiritista en Espana; De Kardec Hasta la Guerra Civil Espanola (2006), online at http://www.ameporto.org/pt/entrevistas/oscar.pdf.
