The Peralta circle was started in Merida in November 1874 by Rudolfo Gregorio Canton y Camara (1833-1909), the owner of the Merida-Peto Railroad and other enterprises. It centered around the mediumship of Waldemaro G. Canton (1843 - ), a noted freethinker, who communicated with a variety of spirits, including "M.G. Canton," "Peralta," "Domingo G.," "P. Souza," et al., whose pronouncements filled the pages of the journal. It featured a section on "Polemica," with replies to ecclesiastical attacks; editorials; "Dictados de los Espiritus" (on the usual Kardecist topics: "Humility," "Ley de Amor," "Expiaciones terrestres," "Educacion moral," etc.; and miscellaneous notices of other Mexican circles, other journals around the world, spirit photography, magnetism, obituaries, etc. The journal avoided political subjects. In announcing "temporary" suspension because of the editor’s poor health, the journal plaintively requested subscribers who owed money for their subscriptions to pay up promptly.
