The journal described its purpose as evidence gathering: "The "Flying Saucer Review is the official monthly publication of the Space Observers League, a non-profit, non-fiction publication of a non-profit club. The purpose of SOL is to gather information on ‘Flying Saucer’ sightings, landings, attempts-of-communication, etc." The journal consisted almost exclusively of clippings on UFO sightings and discussions and articles from other journals, including prominently Fate. Robert J. Gribble, who was president of SOL and undoubtedly contributed to editing the journal, went on the become the NICAP Reporter in the late 1950s and 1960s and director of the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) in the 1970s, a clearinghouse for witness accounts of UFO encounters.
