From Pat Deveney's database:
Brotherhood. Abraham Ellart ("Ted") Nelson (1868-1940) apparently started as a Methodist Episcopal minister and then, in mid-1915, became one of the Healers and Teachers of the Home of Truth of Mrs. Melvania J. Merrill in Los Angeles. By the end of 1915, he was promoting the Brotherhood organization, of which this journal was the organ. This seems to have been a short-lived consortium of local Los Angeles practitioners of Silent Brotherhood distance healing, correspondence work in various areas, practical Christianity teachers, etc., all built around the unifying power of brotherhood. In promoting the sale of Life Subscriptions, Nelson declaimed: "'BROTHERHOOD' provides in the most delightful manner to all who will apply themselves to the work of securing subscriptions for the magazine. In yielding yourself to this work you will not only make money, but you will bless your fellow men and women in your community by putting them in touch with a Periodical of Perfection; a Master-Craft Magazine, second to none now leaving printing presses and bearing a burden of brotherly balm that will bless all who in-breathe it." The journal contained articles by the likes of Edgar Lucien Larkin, Rev. Reynold E. Blight, Theodora Borglum, et al., together with regular meditation thoughts for the month ("I AM Vibrant Energy and Intelligence. I will that Every Cell in My Being Now Cast Out All Fear. I Rejoice in My Estate. I AM at Peace"), and advertisements for the works of Levi Dowling and for Nelson's "Ten Lessons in Creative Thinking," for $5.00.
